Notes

Note
Richard West Bourne was born at the end of the Revolutionary War in May 4, 1785 in Virginia. He learned Surveying and was a farmer and a teacher. Apparently Richard's parents moved from Virginia to central Kentucky in Boyle County, near Danville.Th ey probably traversed through the Cumberland Gap and up the Wilderness Road which had been scouted and blazed by Daniel Boone well before the War. Many Virginia and Carolina families were settling in Kentucky where they could find good farm land fo r developing and building settlements. Eventually they traveled north and a bit east up into Franklin County and then into Oldham County near the Ohio River which was used as a transportation route to the west.

Richard reached adulthood shortly after settling in Kentucky where he met and married Mary Ann Lawrence in 1812 in Franklin County. They changed their residence to nearby Oldham County where good farm crops could be raised near the river. In 1829, Richard sickened and died and was buried in Oldham County, Kentucky.

Continuing research will surely develop additional informatioin as to Richard's activities in Kentucky and about his burial place.
