US PATENT

"Ward Expansion Joint Structure F"
Patent Number: 2013195
Filing date: 18 April 1935 Serial No. 16,997
Issue date: 3 September 1935
Inventor: Howard E. Ward

Howard worked for Harry Darby Company in Kansas City, Kansas. He invented and patented the "Ward Expansion Joint Structure F." This device was an improvement on the then current expansion joints used for concrete bridge roadways. The primary object of his invention was to provide improvements that would overcome certain shortcomings experienced in the manufacture, installation and use of its predecessor. His invention was first installed in the intercity viaduct between the two Kansas Cities. Each link bears the name Ward. Even though that viaduct has been resurfaced and repaired numerous times, I believe those links remain embedded and continue to provide expansion. -William E. Ward 28 January 2008, with additional patent informationa dded by Jane 25 March 2008

Note
DEATH CERTIFICATE

Howard Elmer Ward, son, was the informant for the informatiion on the "typed" Certificate. The errors are as follows:
His father's middle name was spelled "Earle" and two of his nephews were named after him; Maurice Earle Ocker and William Earle Ward, this reviewer. Both of Howard's parents were born in Missouri, not Kentucky; and the informant's address was not Leeds, Mo. but simply "Rural". Later it was taken into Raytown, Mo.
The Attending Physician's signature is nearly unreadable.

William Earle Ward, 28 January 2008

Note
Howard E. Ward is mentioned in his widow's, 29 January 1952 Kansas City Star, obituary.
