Note: It is thought John and his brothers were born on Andrew's farm outside Fredricksburg, Virginia sometime in the 1670's. If this is the case then they were born in what was then "Old" Rappahannock County formed, in 1656, from Lancaster County. By 169 2 the county was re-formed and the farm would be in Essex County and by 1720 would become Spotsylvania County. -2 December 2007 Jane

Per Newman A. Hall: Will dated 24 Apr 1719, recorded 15 Nov 1720 Essex Co., Wills Bk 16 p 218-19. No wife is mentioned in will. All bequests to his two brothers John and Robert and certain of their children; to a daughter of Richard Johnson, brothe r of his sister-in-law, Elizabeth ‎(Johnson)‎ Bourne; to Thomas Schoolar who died in Caroline Co.,VA ca 1749, see COB 1746-1754 p. 128, probably husband of a sister of Elizabeth; and finally to his "friend Charles Taliaferro" and executor who was pro bably uncle of his sister-in-law, Elizabeth.

RESEARCH - Location Notes

The County of Rappahannock originally formed from Lancaster County in 1656 was later dissected into other counties which were dissected even further into Essex and Richmond in 1692 Spotsylvania, Orange and Culpeper were all later divisions each bei ng even further divided. A person could never have moved from the same home and have lived in several different counties during their lifetime. The then Rappahannock County is today referred to as “Old” Rappahannock County to differentiate it f rom the extant same named county. – 14 December 2007 Jane
