Notes

Note
On Aug 7, 1847, Daniel Bourne writing to his nephew Richard N. Young regarding the history of the Bourne family, writes as follows:
"About one hundred and ninety years ago ‎(1657)‎,my great grandfather Bourne with one brother and a sister came from England, and settled about six miles from the town of Fredericksburg in Virginia where he reared a family, and died. He left his plac e to my grandfather, John Bourne, where my father Francis Bourne was born. In the year 1734 when my father was only seven years of age, my grandfather sold his place near Fredricksburg, and moved to Culpeper County, about forty miles distant, and s ettled on the Rapidan River, it being then a frontier plain and abounding with wild game."

Note
From the War Dept, Adjutant Generals office, Washington DC: Corporal in Captain Moses Hawkins Company, also called Captain John Overtons Compnay, 14th Virginia regiment, also called the 10th Virginia regiment, comanded successively by Colonel Charl es Chase, Lieutenant Colonel Abraham Buford & Colonel William Davies. Enlisted 17 Feb 1777 for 3 years, also shown for the war.
The last name Bourne appears on the Company muster roll for March 1779, dated Middle Brook April 1779 "Corporal on furlough".

From Virginia State Archives: Corporal in John Overtons Company,14th Virginia Regimentt, commanded by Colonel William Davies 1778-79 7 under same command 10th Virginia Regiment, 1779. - “Marchant & Related Families of Georgia”

The following link is to a photo of a headstone recently made for Francis Bourne. There is no information attached to the file so at this time I don't know it's placement or even who ordered the stone made. I am awaiting a response to an inquiry I sent to the society. -Jane
